There are various potential side effects to all drugs on the market. It is with the help of a physician and becoming knowledgeable of particular medications that will help one in the process of treating an ailment. Specifically with treating ADHD, there are several factors one should be aware of with regard to proper treatment. In some cases, there is only a need from a therapeutic standpoint. This menas that treatment of this disorder only relies on the sessions of a qualified physician, usually one in the field of psychology. However, there are some instances, of chronic cases of ADHD, where in addition to therapy sessions, there is also a need for medications. There are several types of medications for the treatment of ADHD which include; Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta, Focalin XR, Ritalin, and metadate deviations. These, amongst some others are drugs contain Methylphenidate which is a stimulant.

However, Adderall and Vyvanse are drugs that are derivatives of amphetamines. These drugs are all designed to level out the Hyper-Activity portion of ADHD. As this happens, the patient is then able to maintain some control of their inability to pay attention and focus, hence the Attention Deficit portion of the ADHD disorder. There, however, are important side effects to consider with regard to taking these drugs over an extended period of time. For instance, Vyvanse and adderall are drugs that have side effects of loss of appetite. There are also reports of sleep deprivation associated with these drugs as well. In addition to this, one cannot simply discontinue treatment abruptly. Instead, one has to wien themselves off of the drug or risk liver damage. There are also reports of mood swings associated with these drugs as well.

One prescribed any one of these drugs will be typically administered them in increments. As one gets used to the drug being in the system, these side effects typically dissipate. However, as one discontinues usage, there are instances where a rush of old habits come into effect, along with things such as enormous increase in appetite and restlessness. This is why one prescribed any of these drugs are typically tried with a particular dosage over time, then confined to a final and comfortable dose for most, if not the rest of their lives. Proper and professional advice should always be sought out when considering medicating one's self for treatment of ADHD disorder. The physician will typically diagnose, administer and treat the disorder in a controlled and monitored fashion.
