Vyvanse

Vyvanse is a stimulant drug used to treat adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as well as ADHD in children. A company called New River Pharmaceuticals, which is being bought out by the U.K. based company known as Shire Pharmaceuticals, developed it.

The FDA approved Vyvanse as an ADHD treatment for children ages 6-12 in 2007. A short time later, in April 2008, it was also approved as a treatment for adults with ADHD, as well. The generic name for Vyvanse is lisdexamfetamine. (lis dex am FET a meen)

In addition to Vyvanse, Shire Pharmaceuticals already distributes Adderall XR, which is known to be one of the most popular adult ADHD drugs on the market today. By owning both Adderall XR and Vyvanse, Shire may by far dominate the market in ADHD medication. Although Adderall XR is considered to be the better between the two, there are only a few years on the patent left before generics will begin coming out. Being the complex business that Shire is, they most likely know the wise choice is to indeed have the patent on Vyvanse for adult ADHD, which still has had several years of profitable patent life remaining over the years.

Once they have taken ownership of Vyvanse and properly arranged the patents on the drugs, they can then focus on the best way to increase the number of sales of Vyvanse, while at the same time decreasing the number on Adderall XR. Theoretically speaking, since Vyvanse would be the one with the patent, it would provide the most benefit. Vyvanse is well known for adult ADHD will be better known for years to come.

After a study was performed using all three doses of Vyvanse, 30 milligrams, 50 milligrams, and 70 milligrams, it was discovered that having difficulty falling asleep, dry mouth, and decreased appetite were the most commonly reported adverse reactions. These are the same as with most all adult ADHD medications. Although these side effects may be aggravating, at least they're not dangerous. Overall, Vyvanse can provide a mjor amount of benefits for those seeking Vyvanse adult ADHD treatment as well as other options for adult ADHD.
